Ghandi's Influence on Martin Luther King

Selma to Montgomery March

Dr. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his successful use of non-violence. King worked to improve the "Triple Evils", those being poverty, racism, and militarism.

Martin Luther King Jr. organized and participated in many marches and non-violent protests. One of the most notable marches of his was the journey from Selma to Montgomery.

Mahatma Ghandi largely influenced Martin Luther King Jr.'s decision to use non-violent tactics to resolve civil injustices. The two men believed that one of the most powerful weapons to use upon oppresssed people are indeed, non-violent protests.

March on Washington

At the March on Washington, Dr. King gave one of the most renown and recognized speeches, the "I Have A Dream" speech. Nearly 250,000 people attended this non-violent protest.

Participation in Bus Boycotts

Dr. Martin Luther King participated in the bus boycott that lasted 381 days. He participated along side with another civil rights activist, Rosa Parks.

Overall, Martin Luther King Jr.'s philosophy of non-violence have more of an positive impact than the tactics of Malcolm X. Dr. King partook in many non-violent protests, such as marches,walk-outs, and sit-ins. Dr. King went down the road of love, for, "Hate is to great a burden to bear."
