The Beslan School Hostage Crisis
The Impact
The Chechen terrorist left the whole beslan city in so much fear, pain, and sorrow.
This is far the most deadley Chechen terroist attack in Russia invovling children.The Chechen terrorist lost that day the purpose of the hostage and destroyed so many peoples lives. If they truley wanted their independence now they lost it and will not ever for a long time even get their independence.
What Happened, and when?
On the first day of school (september first through third 2004), left Beslan in sorrow and pain because of the attack. The children that had survived woulc forever remember this day.
- Only 1 terrorist was captured out of the 13 that were there, and was the only one left alive. Besides the leader, Shamil Basayev, who claimed this attack and had not been captured for years.
- Some of the school's staff was shot, then thrown out of the windows.
- Children saw their parents die in front of their face
- Parents and children had starved for those 3 days, with no food or water.
- One of the female terrorists was caught trying to give the hostages water, and was murdered on the spot.
- Terrorist had put bombs and cameras everywhere around the gym.
Why did they do this?
The leader of the Chechen Terrorists is named Shamil Basayev. He claimed this attack on the news and is a very wanted man in Russia. This was nothing new, they had attacked many times before, but this time had made a mark in Russia's history.
- The southern town of Beslan, is a small city in Russia about the size of Waco. As summer starts turning into fall in Beslan, kids start preparing to go to school.
- The students were very excited about their first day of school. They call this begining day, 'The Day of Knowledge'. It is a big deal to the Russian people.
- The Chechnya Terrorists (a.k.a Chechen Rebels) came to Beslan school #1.
- The Chechens were located just 30 miles away from the school, and had been trying for more than 400 years to earn their independence from Russia.
The Effects on the hostages?
- Kids stopped beleiving in god
- Some of the kids were tramatized because their parents were murdered in front of them
- They were afraid scared that one day this might happen again
- About 1,200 people were their including children and about 330 died
- The older kids that were in higher grades got away but not all of them
