The dilema of the society is conveyed through a poem which Montag recites from one of the books he secures. The poem uses short and concise sentences to convey the actions of society as well as the reactions of the group to show their reactions towards the recital. Their reactions display that the society has lived too long to change or want to change. Restrictions on society has led to the abolishment of freedom of speech and disappearance of personal identity all for a singular kind of society.

Conclusion

  • Fahrenheit is a story where freedom and oppression are the central conflicts. The Author finds many interesting ways to express his ideas while also effectively conveying his ideas

Theme

Imagery - What does the author paint?

Theme - Fahrenheit 451

The author has taken the easiest way to convey a picture: the use of a poem. The pictures he creates detail a world of no knowledge. No curiosity. No true freedom. He shows that the world has submitted to a singular lifestyle, with important events being hidden from them. The absence of critical information such as the impending colapse of the government's society has allowed the world to shut its eyes and die while sleeping. While that may be a little too excessive, it is what is conveyed.

Essentially, the world of "Fahrenheit 451" is a Dystopian one, in which the government manipulates its people so that there is only ever one lifestyle. The government enforces the burning of books to prevent humans gaining knowledge through curiosity, as is expressed in this quote"_".

Conflict, Imagery and Theme from Fahrenheit 451 and Gattaca

Theme - links between texts and links in society

A similar kind of Dystopian society is seen in the movie "Gattaca", where the government only accepts people with 'superior genes'. The link here between these two texts is that the government only accepts one lifestyle.

Reality Television shows also promote one particular lifestyle.

Conflict

Conflict - How is this conflict conveyed?

Conflict - Conflict described within the passage

Conflict - How is this conflict conveyed?

In specific, the lines "To Lie before us like a land of dreams..." and "And we are here as on a darkling plain..." (both on page 130) are used to protray the cluelessness of the citizens as to their situation. Not knowing anything about the impending war nor the life the world used to live.

There are two conflicts in this book; the first being Montag's moral conflict and secondly censorship of freedom and an unwillingness to change. This passage centres around the censorship of freedom and the linear lifestyles lived by the people. The poem of the passage depicts the stagnant citizens, as they live their innocent lives while on the outside world, the impending war is threatening to collapse all of society.
