i believe in this novel it is mostly man vs self or man vs man but at points it is man vs nature

middle; after Matt cuts his foot and is taken out of the chicken litter he stays with Celia and Tam Lin in the big house
end; in El Patron "dragon horde" imagining a conversation with Tam Lin
P: Matt does not know that the only reason he is alive is to one day hand his body over to El Patron when the old man needs parts
R: once Matt finds out he attempts to run away and succeeds to try and escape to Aztlan then Amarica

in the novel El Patron would always repeat his story about his brothers and sisters dying (AA) and when he decides it is time he uses Matt for the parts he tells it again but he uses a different ending "don't you think I'm owed those lives?" when he died he was 140 years old "you've had thousands of lives"

personally I don't think there should have been a second book but that's my preference
