What is Precedent?
Article 12 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
"No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home, or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honor and reputation"...
And...
"Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks..."
In common law legal systems, a precedent or or authority is a principle or rule established in a previous legal case that is either binding on or persuasive for a court or other tribunal when deciding subsequent cases with similar issues or facts.
