Du Bois was a prolific author and one of his best known works is the ‘The Souls of Black Folk’, considered to be a seminal work in the history of sociology. One of the early works in the field of sociology, it contains several essays on the basic rights of the blacks, including right to vote, the right to a good education

Two great leaders of the black community in the late 19th and 20th century were W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington. However, they sharply had different opinions on strategies for black social and economic progress.

He was man born into slavery in the 1850s In 1881, he founded the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute in Alabama (now known as Tuskegee University), which grew immensely and focused on training African Americans in agricultural pursuits. A political adviser and writer, Washington clashed with intellectual W.E.B. Du Bois over the best avenues for racial uplift

He was one of the few that did not just go along with Booker and often disagreed with his opinion. Booker was one of the biggest proponents of African Americans pursuing educations that were vocational in nature, but Dubois argued that this was not right.
