by Anna Rogers

2nd period

1/13/2017

White Dwarf

A white dwarf's gravity is 350,000 times Earth's.

Planetary Nebula

White dwarfs can go supernova.

A teaspoon of white dwarf matter weighs 5.5 tons.

Consists of a glowing shell of gas and plasma.

Are unrelated to planets.

About 1,500 are known to exist within the Milky Way galaxy.

Red Giant (pollux)

Pollux's magnitude is 1.14.

Distance to Earth is 33.72 light years.

Average Star

Mass is .057 x 10^30 kg.

Radius is 5.568 million km.

Surface temperature is 4,865 K.

Pollux is the 17th brightest star in the night sky.

There are around 200 billion stars in the Milky Way alone.

Average stars produces its own heat & light from nuclear reactions.

These stars can range from about a 10th of the mass of the sun to up to 200 times as massive.

Stellar Nebula

Up until the 1920s, distant galaxies were classified as nebulae.

They range in size from millions of miles across to hundreds of light years across.

Some nebulae can be seen in the night sky with the naked eye.
