Philippine. Ex: Noli Me Tangere(Touch me not/The Social Cancer), El Filibusterismo

1891(The Reign of Greed), La sodidaridad (Article)

 He called for equal treatment of Filipinos, limiting the power of Spanish and

representation for the Philippines in the Spanish Parliament. Rizal claimed that only

through education the country could be saved from the domination.

 Rizal went to the Philippines in 1892 and founded the Liga Filipino (Philippine League.)

They supported non-violent action even so he was exile.

 In 1895, he went to Cuba as an army doctor. “Katipuna” a nationalist Filipino society

founded by Andres Bonifacio revolted. Though he had no ties to the group, he was

arrested and sentenced to death by firing squad. The execution was carried out in Manila

on December 30, 1896.

 His death created more tension and the Philippines earned their independence in 1898,

though the country didn’t gain lasting independence until after World War II.
