  • Majority of Igbo people are farmers.

American Farming Facts

  • Their harvesting time is of great celebration.
  • Men farm yams because they are known as "male crops" and women farm maize, melons, and beans because they are known as "female crops".
  • 97% of farms are operated by families – individuals, family partnerships or family corporations.
  • American farmers are more industrialized.
  • They grow their yams and then send some to neighboring villages.
  • They harvest palm fruits and then make palm oil, palm oil is then transported to Europe to make money.

  • The Igbo people had no technology so it took them longer to plant, to weed, and to harvest their crops.
  • When Americans farm it probably only takes 2-6 hours because of the technology that they have.
