Meeting the Mentor
While Joy and Sadness are going to retrieve Riley's memories Sadness begins to give up and becomes dead weight. They are running out of time because the islands are getting destroyed one by one.
While Joy and Sadness are looking for Rileys memories they run into Bing Bong and he suggests a dangerous short cut called Abstract Thought. Bing bong was Riley's imaginary friend from when she was little and is the mentor.
Call to Adventure
The call to Adventure is when Sadness starts touching Riley's memories turning them into sad ones. This causes some of her memories to be sucked into long term memories. Joy and Sadness go on an adventure and retrieve them.
Crossing the First Threshold
Crossing the First Threshold is when Joy and Sadness cross Imaginary Land and meet Bing Bong for the first time. This initiates their jounrney.

emotionally complex life and
realizes that she needs
sadness in her life in order
to bring in the joy. (the emotions also realize this)
Inside Out
Test,Allies, Enemies
The main character Riley' s ordinary world is her being happy with her family in Minnesota. All of the emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear are working well together and keeping everything under control.
When Riley falls asleep Joy and Sadness try and scare Riley out of her dreams but while they are trying to do that they are thrown in a jail with a clown and they need to escape.

A year later, Riley has adapted to her new home, made new friends, returned to her old hobbies, and adopted new ones. In headquarter the emotions all work together on a new expanded console. This is the final stage and shows everyone back into their normal lives.
Approach to the Inmost Cave
When Joy and Bing Bong fall into the forgotten memories and cannot get out. This is also when Joy realizes the importance of sadness in Riley's life.

Reward
Riley returns home to her parents and breaks down in tears, confessing that she misses Minnesota and her parents comfort her, and tell her that they also miss Minnesota. Joy and Sadness work the console together, creating a new core memory that combines their emotions and creating a new island forms representing Riley's acceptance of her new life in San Francisco. This shows Riley making her transition back into her old life.
When Joy and Bing Bong attempt to use the magic wagon to get out of the forgotten memories and at the last moment Bing Bong jumps off so that joy can succeed. This is the turning point for the characters.
Joy reunites with sadness and they
get back to headquarters. They discover that Anger's idea has disabled the
console, causing Riley to not be apathetic. Joy hands control of the console to Sadness, who is able to successfully extract the idea, reactivating the console and prompting Riley to return home. This is the reward because this is what they had been trying to achieve during their journey.
