The Triad

Stereotype: a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.

Manifested Today

Prejudice: preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.

Discrimination: treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit.

  • Ableism is still a problem today that exist in the workplace, school, and in some homes. Such as places that don't provide a ramp and access into a building.

  • Another problem still today are jokes for disabled people and they don't really understand their situation in that they are viewed by some as mentally retarded, insane, and crazy.
  • 70% unemployment rate within the disabled population

  • 1 in 5 people have disabilities in physical,emotional, or mental and 88% of disabilities are not visible.
  • Only 2% of transit buses offer wheelchair ramps and lifts for disabled people
  • In 2010, EEOC reported that 25,165 charges of disability discrimination were filed

-Ableism is usually not noticed to those who don’t have a disability, yet it is still a form of discrimination.
