Computers in the 70's

In 1975 Bill Gates and Paul Allen form a partnership that is known as Microsoft to write their 1st computer software. After they sell it to Ed Roberts, it becomes the 1st microprocessor-based computer.

Later in 1975, Cray Research Inc. is the first to introduce the supercomputer which could produce operation at the rate of1.2x10^9 calculations/sec.

1983-The cell phone goes public. It took ten years for the technology that Dr. Cooper invented to become available to the public. The first public cell phones were put out by Motorola.

1989-The flip phone is introduced. Motorola cme up with a new design where the mouth pece flipped over the top of the keypad. It was the first flip phone.

1980-FM stations dominated over AM, reaching over 63% of all listeners by 1882.

1980-CNN, the first all-news network is launched by Ted Turner.

1981-Adam Osborn completed the first portable computer, the Osborne 1, which weighed 24 pounds and cots $1795.

1982=Commodore introduces the Commodore 6, The C64, as it was better know, sold for $595, came with 64KB of RAM and featured impressive graphics.

1983-Apple introduced its Lisa. The first personal computer with a graphical user interface. The Lisa's sloth and high price ($10,000) led to its ultimate failure.

1984-Apple counter launched the Macintosh, the first succesfull mouse-driven computer with a graphic interface. The price was $2,500

In 1990's the phone industry introduced text messaging, e-mail access, calculators, pages, address books, and even games into portable phones.

The first successful flip phone was the Motorola Star TAC which was introduced to the public in 1996.

Then in 1998. the Nokia 5110 was created and released. it was one of the first phones that had the snake game and was also small in size.

In 1999 the Canadian companay research in motion introduced the Blackberry. It allowed users to have faster e-mail acess, text-messaging, and easy to use web browsing.

Also in the late 1990's, the Relate 2000 videophone was released. It was the first telephone that allowed callers to see the person they were talking to.

In 1971 All in the family is the 1st to reveal controversial subjects such as prejudice, abortion homosexuality, and more.

in 1973 millions of televisions were sold. People used them to inform themselves and also for entertainment.

Even though radio sells declined it still attracted many people with its music and talkshows.

During this era, the television began communicating issues that went on in the US using tv shows and soap operas.

In the 1990's the internet and e-mail binded the whole world together. It allowed people to communicate across the country, meet new people, and also learn about the world.

In 1993 the world wide web techlogy was available for the public and could be used for long distance communication.

The well-known company, Google was introduced in 1996 by Larry Page and Serge Brin .

1960-The first split occurs on the Kennedy-Nixon debates.

1962-The All Channel Reverse Act requires that UHF tuners (channels 14 to 83) be included in all sets.

1962-AT&T launches Telstar, the first satellite to carry TV broadcasts.

1967-Most TV broadcasts are in color.

1969-July 20, first TV transmission from the moon and 600 million people watch.

1960-Sony introduced their first transistorized radio, small enough to fit in a vest pocket, and able to be powered by a small batery.

1960-VOR systems finally became widespread, before that, aircraft used commercial AM stations for navigation

1963-Long-distance telephone network began o convert to a digital network, employing digital radios for many of its links.

Transistor Radio

In 1973 Martin Cooper is the first to invent the 1st personal handset while he worked for Motorola. After he took his invention, which he named the Motorola Dyna-Tac. He showed it to the public and was credited with being the 1st person to make a phone call on a portable mobile device.

Then two years later, the US Army began using fiber optics and the Navy installed a fiber optic telephone, which helped improve their communication system.

In 1976 AT&T introduced the common interoffice signaling. It allowed software controlled, networked computers, and switches to communicate with each other using a band other than those used for voice traffic.

In 2000 the Nokia 3310 was introduced. It was smaller in size and could send text messages.

Two years later the first smartphone ws created. It could send and receive messages and e-mails and it had a headset.

The Decor 310 was released in 2003. It was one of the first telephones that had a screen that displayed the date, time, #, the name of the person, and allowed for voicemail.

That same year the first portable phone with a camara was released. It was called the Sanyo SCP-5300 and it was also a flip phone.

In 2005 the Apple company and the Motorola company had a joint venture and came up with the Motorola Rockr which had entertainment such as music and games , and text & e-mail .

In 2007 the first Apple Iphone was introduced. It had a sleek black design, a touch screen, messaging, music, e-mail, internet access, google maps, and many other functions.

That same year the Android Juggernut was introduced. It was the 1st android phone and had a sliding keyboard and a touch screen

In 1954 Regency introduced a pocket transmitter radio called the TR-1. This device was powered by a standard 22.5v battery and was portable for users.

Three years after the television changed the radio broadcast by changing the radio to recorded music and talk shows.

During the 1950's the television was one of the major form of entertainment and a way for the government and media to communicate with the people.

A major improvement was in 1950 when the FCC approved the first standard color television for the public. Then in 1956 Robert Adler invented the first practical control that allowed the public an easier way to use the television.

1962-Communications satellite Telstar 1 is launched by a NASA Delta rocket on July 10. At a cost of $6 million and provide by AT&T, Bell Telephone Laboratories designs and builds Telstar, a faceted sphere 34 inches in diameter and weighing 171 pounds,

1963-The touch-tone telephone is introduced, with the first commercial service available in Carnegie and Greensburg, Pennsylvania for an extra charge.

1965-The first electronic central office switching system, the 1 ESS, is installed in Succasunna, New Jersey, after years of research and planning and at a cost of $500 million.

1968-On February 16 the first 911 call is made in Haleyville Alabama. Legislation calling for a single nationwide phone number for citizens to use to report fires and medicals emergencies was passed by Congress in 1967, and in January 1968 AT&T announced plans to put such a system into place.

In the 2000's many internet sites were created where people could meet and social networks where people could talk to one another at same time.

IIn the year 2000, Twitter.com comes online allowing people to communicate with each other easier.

In 2004 Facebook was created. It later became one of the most used social networks in the world.

Near the end of the 20th century, a webcam was included in the computer. This allowed people that lived far away from each other to see each other easily through the internet

Telephone in the 1950's

As you can see, the technology used for communication has changed drastically over the years. Today we have slimer phones, the option to download apps for everything, smart tv's that allow us to get on the internet and let us see things in 3D, touch screen computer, mini laptops, watches that we can use to call other people, HD, new phones that have more things included each year, and many more things that make our lives easier.

For 2014 the top televisons are the LG 3D LED, the Sony Bravia XBR, and the Panasonic Viera plasma

The top phones are the Sony Xperta Z2 and the Samsung Galaxy S5

In the last few years Apple has created many iphones, ipads, computers, and ipods. Its most recent phones are the iphone 5, 5s, and 5c

The Western electric 500

The Western electric 500 model replaced the model 302 which was made in 1936. It was introduced by the AT&T company in 1950 and was the first telephone that combined a ringer and a headset. it also had a volume control and came in a variety of colors.

In 1951, a test between England and New Jersey demonstrated that it was able to make long distance calls within the United States directly without the assistance of an operator. This advancement helped the US communicate easier with other countries.

In 1956 the 1st transatlantic cable called the TAT-1 was installed from Scotland to Nova Scotia which provided telephone service between North America and the UK
