Hope you understood why this is important
- Stem cell research will lead us to opportunities for us humans. We can change the world and perhaps save people from a variety of diseases with stem cells.

In conclusion...
my presentation is over...
take a look at this video to make you understand better
- This method that they experimented on the mice could also be applicable to other diseases in humans. But what`s holding scientists back from trying , it is how the experiment can be safely controlled to be tested on humans.
- If we proceed in more research in the iPSCs, the stem cells, it would provide great hope for a scientific solution that also would provide protection of innocent life.
- Stem cell research has the potential to treat deadly diseases. The possible health and economic benefits with this research are well worth the cost.
iPSCs and Red blood cells
- iPSCs - are short form for Induced(produced) Pluripotent Stem Cells
- Sickle Cell Anemia - is a disease where it is passed down through families in which red blood cells are in an abnormal crescent or sickle shape. (Normal blood cells are disc shaped)
Now back to pluripotent stem cells
- When having a disease like Parkinson's or a spinal cord injury, you lose neurons.Scientists have the ability to transplant Pluripotent stem cells into the tissue but has to match the person`s body type. What this is, is they are replacing the cells that were lost with the pluripotent stem cells.
- In 2007, Rudolf Jaenisch of Massachusetts Institute of Technology proved that iPSCs can cure sickle cell anemia in an animal. They replaced the disease-causing gene with a healthier version and repaired the stem cells into blood stem cells. After the transplant the mice that had the disease started producing normal blood cells.
- In 2007 a group of scientists from Harvard university were successful in transforming stem cells into a well functioning embryo from natural skin cells from a human volunteer.
- The experiment achieved positive results of Pluripotent stem cells without destroying human life, if the research is continued would be a clear victory for science and human life
Adult Stem Cells
- The primary roles of adult stem cells in a living organism are to maintain and repair the tissue in which they are found.
- Adult stem cells have been used to treat more than 100 medical conditions
- Research on adult stem cells are important, it has led to such things as bone marrow transplants for leukemia patients.Leukemia develops when the blood stem cells in the bone marrow make abnormal blood cells. These abnormal cells are called leukemia cells. Over time, the leukemia cells out number the normal cells and leukemic cells implant in the bone marrow and attack the body’s natural process of making healthy blood stem cells.
- Another use of human stem cells are they can generate tissue which new drugs could be tested.
Understanding Stem Cells
- Scientists believe that studying the characteristics of stem cells could eventually lead us to treatment of many diseases like diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer`s disease, Parkinson`s disease, Cancer and spinal cord injuries.
Stem Cells Research
- Stem cells can be put into two categories, multipotent stem cells and pluripotent stem cells.
- Pluripotent stem cells - are stem cells that can develop all of the body`s cells.
- Multipotent stem cells - are stem cells that can form many of the body`s cell types, but not all.
