Urban Life In The 1900s

D.C.

The Capital of the Country:

  • D.C. is the capitol of politics in the US.

  • Not many people actually lived there

  • The white house tour is a fabulous tour of the white house

  • People can also tour The Capitol and The Supreme Court building

New York

New York is the center of Americas immigrant population. With that being said, there is a lot of things to do and visit in New York, a melting pot of races and classes. One of the top things to do is to visit is the Rockefeller building. built built by the one and only John D. Rockefeller, the building is a direct resemblance of the book "The Gospel of Wealth". after visiting the Rockefeller Center we will take a trip to china town to visit authentic chinese shops and people. While were are there we will pass through little italy to not only see more culture, but to see the impact european culture has had on the building of New York. Last on our tour we will visit the famous statue of liberty, lthe welcoming center fr all immigrants.

The New York tour is a tour of all the major sections of New York City. It shows all the different sections of the city. from the rich and the natives to the poor and the immigrants, it shows New York at it's finest.

Chicago

The Industrial Boom:

Technological advances in making steel led way to the construction to more factories.

With more factories comes more jobs, particularly for immigrants

Boston

Immigration:

Religion:

Philadelphia

Religion is a very important part of Boston life.

Churches such as the Central Congregational Church still stand to this day.

Chicago had a massive immigration boost due to people moving west

With such diverse immigration, many shops and restaurants have a distinctive culture flavor to them

Frank Furness:

A master architect of the Gilded Age. Had a Gothic style to his buildings

The USS Constitution:

Young Woman's Christian Association:

The wolds oldest floating commissioned vessel.

She was launched in 1777, and still floats to this day.

Tours are still given to this day.

Provided moral and religious guides immigrant women. Focused on helping single women of the time

Reading Terminal Market:

Opened in 1893, started as a small train stop

Quickly blossomed into a popular market
