Clinical Description
- The external features of thsi disorder is that they have shorter limbs than most others and the lack of height and the more chubby look to them.
- The features are that the front half of the pituitary gland doesn't produce the appropriate amount of growth hormone.
- The only psychological problem would be the depression of being so differnet and being discouraged about your height from others.
- The affected person experiences a slowed growth of the arms, legs, and other structures of the body, so while the body grows the arms and legs grow to a normal proportion but at a slowed rate.
Modes of Inheritance
- The only problem relating to this disorder would be the physical difference in height and the lack build.
- Yes this disorder is physically limiting because of the slowded growth, it is not life threatning or invariably fatal.
- To have this disorder it makes you feel tiny compared to normal people and this can make you depressed but for the most part the person themselves do not expierence any other problems.
- Growth Hormone Deficiency
- Sometimes this disorder is caused by a chromosomal error in the short end of either chromosome 3 or 7.
- No this is an equal chance in most ethnic, religious, or sex group but it does have a high chance of running in the family.
- I would describe it by saying that this disorder is caused by a lack of growth hormone production in the pituitary gland and this can either be caused by a tumor or a chromosomal error.
- A chromosomal error is a mutation, addition, or deletion in any of the chromosomal pairs.
- While at other times it can also be caused a tumor near or on the pituitary gland whis is a multifactorial disorder due to an environmental factor.

- Yes the symptoms or results can be treated within a time limit after birth
- No there is no cure for this diorder.
Detection
- Yes there is gene therapy for this disorder but it has to be applied before the growth plates fuse together or there will be little chance of success.
- The primary symptom for this disorder is the lack of height.
- So if there is a change in and individuals growth habits then that is a lead to them having this disorder.
- They can also take an x-ray of a childs hand to see the bone age compared to the chronological age of the child because the bone age in affected children is usually 2 years younger than there chronological age.
