How do the Laestrygonians compare to the Cyclops in Appearance and behavior? What do Odysseus's encounters with the Laestrygonians and the Cyclops and his escape from them reveal about his values and leadership?
They are similar to the cyclops, the Laestrygonians are huge in stature and demonstrate a total disregard for Xenia(Hospitality) by eating the scouts Odysseus sends to see if they will show the hospitality he expects. In this case and the one with the cyclops he sacrifices men for his own curiosity and desires. But his leadership is questionable at two main points in this book. the first one when he taunts the Cyclops Polyphemus into throwing rocks at the boat and endangering his ship mates life's. Secondly when he Arrives at the land if the Laestrygonians he sends all his ships but his in the tight windless cove. He doesn't warn the other people on the boats inside of the cove of the danger and as a result they are all killed but Odysseus and his crew.

4. What happenes to Eurylochus's men when they reach Circe's palace.

7. How does Odysseus get his men back into human form.
Describe what happens just as Odysseus and his ship spots the shoreline of Ithaca. Keeping in mind Odysseus is telling this story to the Phaeacians, how does he avoid looking like a fool?
8.How long does Odysseus spend at Circe's palace?
Weaving seems to symbolize deception and trickery. Penelope tricked the suitors into leaving her alone for three years by claiming she needed to weave a burial shroud for her father in law. even thought she wove by day she ripped it apart at night. Interestingly enough weaving, Disguise, and trickery are skills associated with Athena, and Odysseus refers to 'weaving cunning schemes" when he plots to deceive Polyphemus and escape his cave. Circe's weaving "her enchanting web" lulls Odysseus's men into a false sence of security that makes it easier for her to transform them.
How does Odysseus convince Circe to transform his men back into their human forms?
When They arrive at Circe's palace, Eurylochus and his men find an great number of wolves and mountain lions roaming the grounds, but rather then attack them they act quite tame,"eager as hounds that fawn around their master."Their discovery of these animals foreshadow their transformation at Circe's hands. Circe's turning odysseus's men into pigs symbolizes their greed.
Although he shares her bed, Odysseus is "immersed in sorrow" and neither eats nor drinks while at Circe's Palace. he tells her that no man could enjoy himself while his comrades were suffering and declares that he will not be able to enjoy her hospitality until he can look his men in the eyes again.
How do the men describe Circe's voice and hospitality? In what way is Circe comparable to the Lotus-eaters? what does this symbolize to the men?
The men describe Circe's voice as "spellbinding" and "enthralling", like the lotus plant the drugs she mixes into their food and wine are meant "to wipe from their memories any thought of home" Both Circe and the lotus eaters symbolize the temptations to escape pain and suffering by succumbing to pleasure
what might be significant about the fact that Circe is weaving when Odysseus's men first encounter her?Where else have you seen examples of weaving in the story? what might is symbolize?
After staying awake for nine days steering his ship because he "never trusting the ropes to any other mate" Odysseus succumbs to an "enticing sleep" just as the Ithacan shoreline comes into view.
His mutinous men open the bag while he sleeps because they think its gold and release the winds inside and blows them all the way back to Aeolus's island. Odysseus avoids looking foolish by blaming his men for their greed and misfortune
You do Know It right?
Odysseus enjoys Circe's bed and hospitality for an whole year and contemplates leaving only when his men plead with him to return to Ithaca:"their urging brought my stubborn sprite round" it is surprising that Odysseus allows his voyage to be delayed for so long because he previously countered Circe's and the Lotus-eater's attempts to make his men forget their desire to go home. this inconsistency shows that Odysseus is also susceptible to temptation.
sere
Poetic dry,withered.
What does Circe's advise Odysseus that he must do before he can return home? How does he respond to this news?
What directions and aid does Hermes give to Odysseus before he faces Circe?
How long does Odysseus and his men stay with Circe, and what finally prompts Odysseus to leave? What is surprising about the length of their stay? What does the length of their stay suggest about Odysseus's character.
Hermes gives Odysseus a drug(Grass) that will make him immune to Circe's potions and magic and explains exactly hoe Circe will try to ensnare him. He advises Odysseus to threaten Circe with his sword once she relizes that he is immune to her power and not reject her offer to share her bed; otherwise, she will never release his men from her spell. Most importantly, Hermes advises Odysseus to make Circe swear that "she'll never plot some new intrigue to harm{him}."
Circe instructs him to travel to the underworld and to a riterial to speak with Tiresias a blind prophet. Tiresias will tell him how to get home and the challenges he has yet to face. Odysseus responds differently then normal. he responds weak and fearful. her words "crushed the heart inside[him]" and feels"no desire to go on living and see the rising light of day" in the face of such an impossible task.
Because Eurylochus witnessed Circe turn his men into pigs, he does not trust her and fears that this will be a repeat of the experience with the cyclops in which "Ho headed Odysseus" condemns more of his men to death. Although Eurylochus's criticism is valid, Odysseus is not used to being challenged and barely contains the desire to cut off his head, even though Eurylochus is his kinsman. Odysseus behavior ironically confirms Eurylochus's Criticism that he is to rash and hotheaded for a leader.
