Unlike McCurdy, I had selected Miranda Cosgrove to play Letty Larkspur for both her physical appearance and her musical abilities. For example, the novel describes Letty as having long, dark hair, blue eyes, light colored skin and a petite figure. Cosgrove has the same physical appearance minus the blue eyes (color contacts will fix that). Letty is also described as having a stellar voice and a good stage presence when she sings. The same is also true for Cosgrove, who has a singing voice almost exactly how I imagined Letty's. Cosgrove has also had some experience in playing characters that have had some minor personality similarities to Letty. For instance, Letty is described as being shy, a bit submissive, and caring more about pleasing other people than herself. The character Carly, which Cosgrove played in I Carly, had some of the same personality traits, but was very outgoing and able to stand up for herself more easily than Letty.
I had picked Robert Downey Jr. because of his past acting experience and his looks. As for experience, he has played characters that have had shared similar behaviors to that of Darius Grey. For instance, Darius is known to throw parties periodically at his mansion. In the Iron Man movie trilogy, Downey's character, Tony Starks, had exhibited this same type of behavior. Also, Darius has been described as a tall, older man with somewhat tanned skin, dark hair, and brown eyes. This description matches Downey's physical appearance, with the only difference being him having facial hair (which he can shave).
I had picked Jennette McCurdy more for her experience having roles similar to that of Cordelia Grey, than for looking similar to the novel's description of the character. For instance, in the novel, Cordelia is portrayed as a tough, "no nonsense" girl who stubbornly pursues whatever she puts her mind to. This is similar to a past character McCurdy has had to play in I Carly , Samantha Puckett (the only differences between the two characters was that Samantha was more aggressive and not as feminine as Cordelia). Cordelia was also described as somewhat of a defiant free spirit, who tended to do whatever she wanted (case in point: sneaking around with Thom even when her father said "no"). This behavior is similar to that of the characters McCurdy has played in the past (ex: Samantha Puckett). Finally, she looks a bit similar to how I had imaged Cordelia's appearance (or at least the closest thing to it). All she would need to do is cut her hair short and wear brown eye colored contacts, and Jennette McCurdy would become Cordelia Grey.
Adam Hicks was the youngest red-headed actor I could find, and despit the fact that I am familiar with some of his work, that was not the reason why I picked him. Instead, I had selected him almost solely on his looks and age. For example, the novel describes Thom as a tall, handsome looking red-head with hazel eyes. This description also matches Hicks' appearance (hazel eyes and all). Another detail the novel gives us about Thom is that he is around Cordelia's age (which makes him about eighteen or nineteen years old). Although Hicks' is twenty-two years of age, he could still easily pass off as being in his late teens.
See you later, folks!
This was an unusal pick for me because (obivously) Taylor Swift is known more for her singing career than her acting ability. However, I had chose her to play the part of Astrid Donal due to both her looks and the little acting experience she has had. For example, Astrid is described as having short blonde hair, light skin and blue eyes. This description does match Swift's appearance, with the only contrast being the age difference between her and Astrid (but make-up can knock a few years off of Swift). The book also describes Astrid as begin a bit care-free and fun loving. In the movie Valentine's Day, Swift played a highschool girl with those exact same personality traits (she was just a bit more ditzy than Astrid).
I had selected Drake Bell as Charlie Grey because of both his looks and acting experience. For instance, Charlie Grey is described as being a bit of a smooth talker and charming with the ladies. In the program Drake and Josh, Bell's character, Drake, exhibited those same behavior traits. Another aspect of Charlie's behavior was that he had a tendency to make decisions without meditating on its consequences. This trait was also found in the characters Bell has had to play (ex: Drake). As for physical appearance, the novel describes Charlie as being a tall, handsome young man with dark hair and brown eyes. This also fits Bell's physical appearance, with the only difference between the two being their age gap (again, make-up can fix that).
