- treaty between U.S. Gov. and the Odawa
- signed on November 17, 1807
1855 Treaty of Detroit
After the treaty was signed, benefits the U.S. Gov. promised, but didn't carry through. The Odawa Indians from the area came together planning to sue the government to recover financial agreements promised by the United States.
Roles
- plating and harvesting was done by women and children
- land clearing was done be men
- most children attended school (learning about European and american cultural beliefs and practices
- children learned to read and write Odawa in school
- Odawa men joined U.S. Army to fight in Civil War (first time fighting on same side as Americans)

- governed by 9 members
- originally located in north-west of Lower Penn. (336 sq mi)
- have been in Michigan before europeans started migrating
- started moving south after Europeans started settling (Mackinaw, Petoskey, Harbor Springs)
