Immune System

Disorders/Diseases

Organs/structures involved

There are 3 disorders and diseases that involve the immune system:

1. Leukemia- A malignant progressive disease in which the bone marrow and other blood forming organs produce increased numbers if immature or abnormal leukocytes. They stop the forming of regular blood cells, leading to anemia.

2. Lymphoma- Cancer of lymph nodes, a tumor of lymphoid tissue. there are 3 types called Hodgkin´s disease, non- Hodgkin´s lymphoma, and miscellaneous lymphoma.

3. Anemia- The condition of having less than the normal red blood cells or less than the normal quantity or hemoglobin in the blood.

Treatments

There are 2 types of treatments

Leukemia

Anemia

There are 7 organs and body structures involved in the immune system:

1. Leukocytes- Circulates in the blood and body fluids and is involved in counteracting foreign substances. That are also called white blood cells.

2. lymph nodes- Each of a number of small swelling in the lymphatic system where lymph is filtered and lymphocytes are formed.

3. Lymphatic system- A network of tissues and organs that help get rid of body toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials.

4. Skin- The thin layer of tissue forming the natural outer covering of the body.

5. Spleen- A large deposit of lymph nodes.

6. Liver- Contains phagocyte and lymphocytes.

7. Phagocytes- A type of cell within the body capable of engulfing and absorbing bacteria and other small cells and particles.

Includes treatments like chemotherapy, some times followed by radiation and stem cell translation.

Depending on the underlying diagnosis, iron supplements may be used for iron deficiency, blood transfusions, and folic acid.

10 Facts people don´t know

Keep healthy ! :

How the Immune system works

1.) Eat plenty of fruit, vegetable, and whole grains.

2.)Get at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.

3.)Get enough sleep.

4.) Wash your hands !!

5.) Keep up with your vaccinations.

  • 1.)The immune system is made up of network of cells, tissues and organs that work together to protect the body against infections and maintain overall health.
  • 2.)The immune system works to limit these microbes access to the body and prevent them from growing and causing illness.
  • 3.)Allergic reaction, your immune system is responding to a harmless allergen that is perceives as threat.
  • 4.)Getting under 5 hours of sleep has been shown to greatly depress immune function in your body.
  • 5.)The number one way to boost the immune system is to reduce stress.
  • 6.)While the body need some sunlight to produce vitamin D, to much sunlight can suppress the immune system.
  • 7.) When your catecholamine and CD8 levels change it can suppress the immune system.
  • 8.)Even after a month of quitting smoking, smokers can straighten the immune system.
  • 9.)Dieting decreases natural killer cell functionality , therefore weakening the immune system.
  • 10.)Toxins such as air pollution, pesticides and even second hand smoke can affect your natural defense system.

The body goes through the compliment system, which is a large number of plasma proteins that react with one another to opsonize(make a foreign cell more susceptible to phagocytosis)

pathogens and induce a series of inflammatory responses to help fight the infection. It is distributed through body fluids and tissues. At sites of infection, the body has a trigger which will enhance the change of a quicker way to get and stay healthy.
