Ammonium Nitrate in Water
Temperature Change
Procedures
- Use a styrofoam cup with lid to act as a heat barrier to provide optimum results.
- Measure out 100 grams of distilled H2O into styrofoam cup.
- Measure out the first weight of ammonium nitrate into plastic weighing dish.
- Measure initial temperature of the H2O and record the results.
- Add the ammonium nitrate to the H2O.
- Swirl the cup to ensure the ammonium nitrate dissolves fully.
- Measure the temperature change until it is at a constant to find the final temperature of the solution.
Data
These four trials show the temperature change of the solution with varying amounts of ammonium nitrate
