BACKGROUND
Originally, there was no south or north Korea but just a single Korea. However, after the end Russo-Japnese war in 1905, Korea became a protectorate of Japan, later annexed as a colony in 1910.
After Japan was defeated in World War II in 1945, Korea became an independent country again. However this time, two forms of government was set up: The Republic of Korea (ROK) in the south, and a more communist goverment was set up in the north. (DPRK)

In 1950, the DPRK attacked the ROK in the south, and the United States intervened. This became known as "The Korean War". In 1953, an armistice was signed.
The North and Southern Parts of Korea would henceforth be seperated by a military boundry.
Thus, South and North Korea were born.

Since the 1960's, South Korea has acheived a record growth and expansion. Before, South Korea was as poor as many 3rd world countries in Africa. However, they now currently have one of the 20 largest economies in the world.
This has been made possible by South Korea's imorting of raw material's to make manufatured goods. South Korea's main exports include: Semi-conductors, Cars, Computers, Steel, Ships, Petrochemicals, and Wreless Telecommunications Equipment.
FLAG
The South Korean Flag is made out of the yin-yang symbol and four trigrams. The blue represents yin, or the negative cosmic energy, while the red represents yang, the positive cosmic energy. The four trigrams represents the four universal elements of, water, wind, earth, and fire. The white background represents peace.
