The Liberal and Conservative Views On Education
The Liberal View On Education
What is an Education Voucher?
The Conservative View On Education
An Education Voucher is a certificate from the government for parents who wish to send their children to a private school, this voucher supplies the tuition for the student. Education Vouchers are not always just handed out many times foundations require criteria that must be met. This ranges from the families income to what school they are zoned for and if it is unqualified for the student.
The Conservatives are very supportive of education vouchers. They believe that vouchers can have the potential to increase competition between private schools and help with student performance as a whole. The Conservatives believe that the public deserves to choose where students want to attend school whether it is with or without a voucher. The Conservatives represent the idea that a student should not be forced to attend a specific school just because that is where he or she is zoned. They highlight the fact that many zones have unqualified or uncredited schools that people should not be forced to attend. They support the idea that every person should have the opportunity to attend any school of their choice and vouchers can assure that this option is available to all.
The liberals ideas are based on the two principles of liberty and equality. The liberals most often lean towards public school systems. They do this because they believe it is the best way to educate the general public. They are against the idea of education vouchers for students. They do not agree with them due to the fact they believe that vouchers take money from the public through taxes. Liberals believe public money should be used to fund the already existing public schools. The money may be used to increase teacher salaries and update the public school systems in general. Vouchers allow families to choose where their student will attend school including schools outside of their given school zone. If the freedom of choosing any school in a district is given many schools may close down and teachers could potentially loose their jobs if the school lacks a population. Liberals strongly believe in civil rights and everyone receiving them, these rights are accessible to everyone through the public school system and their equal opportunity for everyone to attend.
Evolution OR Creationism?
The idea about school systems teaching evolution is widely debated. The liberals are more likely to teach the idea of evolution. This being about how man developed and Darwinism. This is due to their support of public schools and the fact that these schools would not teach about God and his creation through Adam and Eve. They aim towards keeping the focus on just science.
The Liberals lean towards teaching creationism. This is due to the fact that many private schools are religiously affiliated and may contain a religion class. This specific class allows for the teaching of creationism and more about God then of science.
My Opinion
I support ideas from both sides, but if I was to choose I would say the conservatives. This being because I do not think people should have to settle with a specific school zone. If a student is zoned for a non credited school or does not offer the necessary classes the student should not have to settle for this. If the family did not agree with the teaching of creationism they do not have to attend a Christian private school or a private school in general. Every family should be offered the opportunity to receive an Education Voucher, with limitations in order to get the best education possible.
