Over time, after hiring a few more craftsman, and installing some rides, Silver Dollar City has become a major theme park.
In 1969, Silver Dollar City was the setting for six "Beverly Hillbillies" episodes.
"There was a blacksmith shop, general store, ice cream parlor, doll shop, and the Stage Coach Inn." (51)
"Five frontier-style buildings at the north end of the parking lot and two reconstructive log buildings, the Wilderness Church and the McHaffie Homestead, made up the old time village." (51)
- Hugo Herschend leased the cave from the Lynch sisters in 1950.
- The Herschends planned on opened the Ozark Mountain Village in the spring of 1960 in the Marvel Cave parking lot to keep visitors occupied while waiting for the next cave tour.
- Don Richardson said you couldn't call it the Ozark Mountain Village, its "like calling a person 'Tall, Good-Looking Blond.'" (54)
- Richardson had the idea of giving big coins in change.
- By opening day, May 1, 1960, Silver Dollar City was ready for the grand opening.
- Henry T. Blow discovered Marvel Cave in 1869.
- "It was owned by the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad Company until 1874" (15)
- Around the 1880s, it was used for mining guano to use as a component of gun powder for the Civil War.
- William Henry Lynch bought the cave in 1889 to hold tours.
- It got its name because the limestone walls look like slabs of marble...Marble Cave.
- Lynch's daughters thought it would sound more poetic if the cave was called, "Marvel Cave".
