WANTED: THE RAINBOW TROUT

Where is it native to?

The Rainbow Trout is native only to the rivers and lakes of North America, west of the rocky mountains. These countries include Canada and the United States.

The Rainbow Trout

The picture shown beforehand was the rainbow trout. It is also known as the Redband Trout, Steelhead, or "Color fish".

What native species is it competing with?

Rainbow Trout compete directly with other trout species, such as Brown Trout. These two mostly compete for survival, and to control their species. It's niche is to compete, which goes with the rest of its species, and explains why they are always competing.

Population Control?

There are different ways to control the Rainbow Trout. The population has been controlled mostly by its' predators, which is us humans hunting it for food. Rainbow Trout also compete with other trout for population control. However, due to us humans, their population has been decreasing because of electrofishing. This is why trout competition is important.

The Rainbow Trout is a very common fish that lives in lakes, rivers, and streams. It basically lives in freshwaters. The adequate range of pH for a Rainbow Trout is 7 to 8. They will not reproduduce in any acidic level lower or higher. Also, the temperature of the waters must be between 56 degrees and 70 degrees. If other than those, they become slow and inactive. The nitrates in their habitat is 30-40 ppm. All these things are what makes a Rainbow Trout happy.

Why is it dangerous to the U.S?

How did they get here?

The Rainbow Trout is dangerous to us for many reasons. For one, the Rainbow Trout is responsible for driving many native species into exstinction or endagerment. They have eradicated frog species and threatened many fish species as well.

The Rainbow Trout is actually from the Pacific coast from Alaska to Mexico, but slowly migrated to U.S freshwaters. It took about 100 years for the migration to follow.
