Waste Managment

- Annually, Rio manages to produce half a billion tons of garbage.

- This is about the equivalent of how much Shanghai produces.

- Public transportation in Rio is the cheapest, it is the one method that gets used the most often as well

- Not many people use cars since the roads are mostly always blocked and jammed

Transportation options

- Rio’s average wind speed is very low

- They don’t have much wind energy

Wind Energy

- Brazil has many biofuels such as, liquid biofuels, ethanol, bioethanol, biodiesel, and forestry waste

Biofuels

- Some renewables they have are solar energy, wind, biofuels, and air con water heating

- sun basically provides with an endless supply of solar energy

- These solar panels also help in reducing greenhouse gases

Solar Energy

Renewable Energy Options

- When people use the air conditioning, the heat in the room is removed and put outside.

- Air con water heaters can use excess heat to heat the water

Air Con Water Heating

Greenspaces In Rio

- Rio has discouraged the use of motorized transportation along its beaches

- On every Sunday of the year, one side of the beachfront road is closed to motorized vehicles to fill the city with walking, running and pedaling residents

- Rio is home to various parks and zoos

Rio De Janerio

By: Zoha Malik and Laasya Patibandla

- Their main purpose of the cool roofs is to reflect solar heat and transmit consumed radiation

- They can also lengthen the lifespan of the roof’s material

Cool Roofs

- Already begin the process of redesigning all of their buildings to improve their cities sustainability

- Focusing on developing the natural ventilation, shading / solar gain, natural lighting, cool roofs, and a few other components

- People in Rio are starting to use wind, buoyancy, and solar chimenys for natural ventilation as they both are very effective.

Natural ventilation

Energy Efficient Buildings

- They are adding more windows that grant entrance to light

- South facing windows let in the most light

Natural lighting

Solar Shade and Solar Gain

- they can cut down on solar heat growth through, logical structure designs, appropriate window layout, and decent shading solutions

Food Production

- the Brazilian food production and agricultural business is thriving.

- Brazil is at the top when it comes to exporting food goods.

Educational Instituions

- In Rio there are public schools, private schools and international schools

- Children must start their education at 6 and go to elementary and middle school for 9 years
