The action game is a video game genre that emphasizes physical challenges, including hand–eye coordination and reaction-time. The genre includes diverse subgenres such as fighting games, shooter games, and platform games, which are widely considered the most important action games, though some real-time strategy games are also considered to be action games.
Why are video games so popular?
Video gaming is one of America's favorite pastimes. There are more video game stores in New York City than there are books stores. And there are enough games out there to satisfy the taste of any gamer alive. The reason that video games are so popular is that they are a lot of fun. The main reason in the early days is that few people had PC's. When Nintendo introduced their console in the mid eighties computers were not all that widely used, it wasn't until the mid nineties when the internet gave people a reason to buy one that most people started to own a computer.
Games which try to accurately depict real world situations, physics, and events as accurately as possible. There are several varieties of simulation games, but are probably only three that are very well known, specifically Racing Simulators, Flight Simulators, and 'Sim' type games that emulate environmental variable into a game, such as the widely popular 'The Sims' series of games.
A handheld game console is a lightweight, portable electronic device with a built-in screen, game controls, and speakers. Handheld game consoles are smaller than home video game consoles and contain the console, screen, speakers, and controls in one unit, allowing people to carry them and play them at any time or place
An adventure game is a video game in which the player assumes the role of protagonist in an interactive story driven by exploration and puzzle-solving The genre's focus on story allows it to draw heavily from other narrative-based media such as literature and film, encompassing a wide variety of literary genres. Nearly all adventure games (text and graphic) are designed for a single player, since this emphasis on story and character makes multi-player design difficult.

This includes, but is not limited to, playing these games over an Internet or LAN connection with the intention of winning over the other player(s). Other examples of competitive gaming include the attaining of a best possible time in a time attack or speedrun.
Mobile gaming is growing rapidly as games are accessible and cheap and gamers enjoy playing when on the move. Developers also see the mobile market as a great area to break into as nearly everyone has a phone but not everyone has a games console.

Sports
A role-playing game (RPG and sometimes roleplaying game) is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making or character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines.
A sports game is a video game that simulates the practice of traditional sports. Most sports have been recreated with a game, including team sports, athletics and extreme sports. Some games emphasize actually playing the sport (such as the Madden NFL series), whilst others emphasize strategy and organization (such as Championship Manager and Out of the Park Baseball).
A fighting game is a type of video game where the player controls an on-screen character and engages in close combat with an opponent. These characters tend to be of equal power and fight matches consisting of several rounds, which take place in an arena. Players must master techniques such as blocking, counter-attacking, and chaining together sequences of attacks known as "combos".

Educational games are games that are designed to teach people about certain subjects, expand concepts, reinforce development, understand an historical event or culture, or assist them in learning a skill as they play.
In an RTS, as in other wargames, the participants position and maneuver units and structures under their control to secure areas of the map and/or destroy their opponents' assets. In a typical RTS, it is possible to create additional units and structures during the course of a game. This is generally limited by a requirement to expend accumulated resources. These resources are in turn garnered by controlling special points on the map and/or possessing certain types of units and structures devoted to this purpose.
A stealth game is a type of video game that rewards the player for using stealth to avoid or overcome antagonists. Games in the genre typically allow the player to remain undetected by hiding, using disguises, and/or avoiding noise. Some games allow the player to choose between a stealthy approach or directly attacking antagonists, perhaps rewarding the player for greater levels of stealth. The genre has employed espionage, counter-terrorism and rogue themes, with protagonists that have been identified as special forces operatives, spies, thieves, assassins and ninjas. Some games have combined stealth game elements with those of other genres, such as first-person shooters and even platform games.
