They reproduce asexually; by forming two valves (the long green stuff) inside the parent frustule aka "silica" They then divide and separate.

Ecological Importance -

  • Diatoms are a major food source for marine and microorganisms & animal larvae.

They move around a lot, meaning they're mobile.

How do they obtain energy?

  • Diatoms get energy from the sun to use in the process of photosynthesis. Sooo they're basically autotrophic if you didn't get that.
