Endangered Species In Central America

Why?

Where is it?

These cats have been hunted and trapped for their fur for many years. The fur trapping of these cats have gone down, but big groups of these cats are still trapped every year. Some of these cats have been killed because of where they live. In there natural, habitats coffee plantations have been put up.

This species is found in subtropical, humid evergreen and mountain cloud forests.

What is the issue?

In Central America, many species are in danger of becoming extinct. Hunting and deforestation is the reason why the population of many species is dropping. Such as the population of the Little Spotted Cats.

Solution?

Who is involved?

One way people are helping is that laws have been made in Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Costa Rica, French Guiana, Paraguay, Suriname, and Venezuela to make it illegal to hunt the Little Spotted Cat. Some of these cats are being held in zoos and other locations in which many organizations are trying to help the species from vanishing.

Humans continue to hunt these cats, although due to strict legislations, the number of dead cats has lessened dramatically. Another reason for the decreasing of their numbers is the ever-present deforestation. Their habitats are being destroyed and this is making them have to find somewhere else to live.
