I felt that Sherri was a semi-important character. Her storyline didn't move me due to that it was rather vague. I learned, however, that life is unfair and can be cruel and surprising all at once. However, I would advise her to play it safe. This is all I have to say.
Sherri struggles with a Man vs. Self conflict. She tries to decide between
Sherri is described, by the author on page 19-20, as an attractive 16 year-old girl with long red hair and green eyes. She is also described to be tough looking, dressed sharp, stuck-up, and really good looking. Sherri is also a cheerleader at the high school and later on a spy for the Greasers. She has the nickname 'Cherry' because of her red hair.
(P.31) This quote by Sherri represents the fact that the Socs and Greasers have more things in common than they believe. Both the Greasers and Socs have problems that they need help with. Ponyboy realized that this made "...the other guy was human too." (P.100)
Ponyboy has feelings for Sherri, pages 19-20, as he describes her a lot and talks with her often throughout the story. For example he complemented,
" Boy, she was good-looking." (P.19)
"Gosh, she was pretty." (P.20)
This shows how he really feels towards her. Ponyboy shows great affection towards her.
Two-Bit does not seem to care about Sherri. However, he does joke around with them. For example on page 25 he says,
"Who's this, your great-aunts?"
While he has feelings for Sherri, he does for her friend Marcia. He continues on to joke with them, through pages 25-6, but then starts to talk with Marcia.
Johnny does not show his feelings outright around Sherri, but does it more subtly. (P.22-24
"Leave her alone, Dally." (P.22)
This show that Johnny does care about Sherri , however, in a more remote sense.
In the evening after Ponyboy and Johnny run into the Socs. It is later in the evening when they meet up with Dally to go to The Dingo.
Sherri's purpose to the story is to be a peacemaker between the Socs and Greasers. She tried to make the relation between them better. She also tried to stop them from fighting each other.
Sherri is first met at the drive-in theater, where Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy also are located. The theater's name is The Dingo.
External Conflict
There 2 external conflicts, which are Man vs. Man and Man vs. Society.
One of the conflicts is Man vs. Society because Sherri dislikes the violence between the Socs and the Greasers. She also dislikes how both sides commit crimes. The society that she lives in has a lot of violence and bad influences but Sherri manages to keep away from it. She also is friends with both the Socs and Greasers which is something that doesn't happen in that society.
The Greasers
The other conflict is Man vs. Man because during this time period the Socs and Greasers were fighting each other. Sherri is caught up in the fighting, by becoming a spy for the Greasers. She doesn't want there to be violence so she does her best to keep them from fighting. However she cannot always stop them from fighting but tries to keep them from seriously harming each other.
