Hey, I'm Nathan Berry and I'm Owen Sutcliffe and the poem that we are presenting to you today is “Dreams” by Langston Hughes

-Meter of: Hold FAST / to DREAMS,for IF / dreams DIE, LIFE is / a BROK/ en-WING / ed BIRD, that CAN / not FLY hold FAST / to DREAMS,for WHEN / DREAMS go, LIFE is / a BAR / ren FIELD, FROZen / with SNOW
- Rhyme every other line (A-B-C-B)
- Poem structure of 2 stanzas and 10 lines
- No specific rhythm
Langston Hughes::
-Born February 1, 1902, in Joplin, Missouri.
-He had a difficult childhood
-He was raised by his grandmother until he was 13.
-He then moved to Lincoln, Illinois where he began writing poetry.
-After graduating high school he spent a year in Mexico and a year at Columbia University
-In November 1924, he finished his book of poetry.
-Subsequently, he wrote his second novel in 1930 and won the Harmon gold medal
-He later died of prostate cancer in May 22, 1967
Dreams
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

The metaphor of the broken winged bird and the barren field and the tone both show the consequences of losing your dreams. What you should take back from this presentations is how important it is to keep your dreams and to keep dreaming because if not you will live is sorrow and heart break.
