The Lake Erie Water Snake was removed from the list of federally endangered and threatened species on august 16, 2011. The Lake Erie Water snake was added to the list on August 30, 1999.

Lake Erie Water Snakes mate from late May through early June. Lake Erie Water Snakes are ovoviviparous meaning they carry their young with them until they hatch and are 'born'.

The lake Erie Water Snake's diet used to consist of native amphibians and fish. An invasive species called the Round Goby Extirpated many of the native fish the Lake Erie Water Snake would eat so it began to eat mostly Goby fish instead.
