While going to Utah he was recruited by Willem Kolff

Jarvik-7 was the product of a lower model called the Jarvik-3

College

First he wanted to major in mechanical drawing and architecture

Instead he majored and got his bachor's degree in zoology at Syracuse University in1964

Mostly because of his father's condition

Peter Houghton was 63 with cardiomyopathy

Future in medicine

Mr Jarvik watched his father get surgery for his heart disease

This sparked his interest in medicine

Early Life

Robert Koffler Jarvik was born May 11, 1946

Even when he was in high school he was inventing

He invented the automatic stapler in high school that is now used during surgery

Lived with the Jarvik-2000 for 7 years

Died from acute renal failure

New York Luck

Moved to New York in 1987

Here he met and married Marilyn vos Savent

Founded Jarvik Research inc
