Reading in natural because of surroundings
1st interaction- Child sees parent read or is read to by parent- modeled
2nd interaction- collaboration with the person who- provide encouragement, motivation & help when needed.
This theory is still around because it goes to show that the home is important to learning how to read and it is a natural occurrence when fostered.
Every kid has the same ability, but the opportunity is where the differentiation of readers comes into play.
3rd interaction- PRACTICE! Time for kids to evaluate their performance, make corrections and increase their skills.
4th interaction- Performance- Child shares learning and seeks approval from supportive, interested and encouraging adult.
Provide an environment that promotes peer interaction, has high quality literature, and meaningful language experiences
Don Holdaway- (1979)- his theory followed the the Maturation Theory, by 50 years.
Believed that reading is a natural development for all children. It must be fostered by the caregiver and educator though, in order for child to be as successful as possible.
