Aztecs typically used their captives as human sacrifices. Incas made captives learn their language of Quechua, this resulted in a very flexible government, people were still allowed to practice their own religions, resistance in some areas, but everywhere rulers tried to incorporate lower level people into the government.

Both practiced gender parallelism where both men and women held positions in the government and as religious officials. Women's jobs of childbirth, cooking, etc were not seen as inferior, in the Aztec community sweeping was seen as noble job. In the Incan culture the sapay Inca was the male ruler and the coya was his female consort

Their conquered lands were not based on tribute like the Aztecs but based on labor services (mita), much trade along the "American web"
