The Executive Powers

  • Instead of having a President, Japan has a Prime Minister and his name is Shinzo Abe
  • The Executive Power is responsible for the Cabinet which includes the Prime Minister and 17 Ministers of State
  • The Emperor of Japan(Akihito) has the final word as to who will become the next Prime Minister

  • Executive Branch Duties revolve around overseeing meetings of the two houses and saying the last official decision.
  • Japan is an island located in East Asia on the Pacific Ocean.
  • The four largest islands that make up Japan are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku
  • The currency that Japan uses is called Yen
  • The population of Japan is 127.6 million
  • Japan's flag has a red circle which represents the rising sun and the whiteness represents the purity of the land

The Judiciary Powers

  • Japan has five systems of courts that are spread by districts.
  • Summary Courts there they handle civil cases that don't exceed 7,600 dollars
  • District Courts where they handle increasing civil cases into criminal cases.
  • The Family Courts where they handle family affairs determinations and juvenile delinquency cases.
  • The High Courts handle appeals from the District courts, Family Courts or Summary Courts
  • The Supreme Court is the last one, there they receive the appeals from the High Courts and make final judgements

CONSTITUTION

Japan is a country that continues to exceed their

  • Before Japan's current Constitution, they had been following the Meiji Constitution which had been in power since November 29 1890 till May 2nd 1947
  • The Constitution's 3 basic principles are sovereignty of the people, respect for fundamental human rights and lastly a renunciation of war.
  • The Constitution also states that the government will be based off of parliament system.
  • There are three branches of government judicial, legislative and executive.
  • The People may only vote in certain elections

The Legislative Power

  • Instead of being called a legislature this branch is called The Diet
  • The Diet is made up of 2 houses, The House of Representatives and The House of Councillors.
  • This is where Japan accounts for all of there laws to be made.

Politics

  • There are 480 seats that make up The House of Representatives and 242 seats for the House of Councillors.
  • The terms last for 6 years unless you are fired or dead.
  • Japan has political parties just like the U.S and there are 480 of them.
  • Japanese citizens at the age of 20 may vote for the Councillors and Representatives however they cannot elect the prime minister.
  • The 2 most popular parties would be The Liberal Democratic Party and The Democratic Party
  • There is also a monarch in Japan, emperor Akihito, however he does not have power in any of the state.
  • The Japanese government has a Bicameral Legislature
  • Elections in Japan happen every for 4 and 3 years to elect new Representatives and Councillors
