- Mary Ellen Richmond was born on August 5th, 1861, in Belleville, Illinois.
- Mary was a sick child, spending most of her young life ill.
- In 1899, Mary wrote her first book.
- It provided a list of practical techniques used in doing charitable work.
- Mary began working for the Baltimore Charity Organization Society in 1889 as assistant treasurer.
- She became the general secretary two years later.
- Mary Richmond passed away on September 12th, 1928.
- She presented many times at the meeting of the "National Conference on Social Welfare."
- She paid special attention to issues concerning the welfare of children and women.
