Compare and contrast the Cold War Policies of Truman and Eisenhower.

Truman Foreign Policy

Thesis: While Truman and Eisenhower had some similar ideas and goals, they took very different approaches to achieve them.

Eisenhower: Powaski took on a more Orthodox view considering that Eisenhower did less to actually resolve the conflict and more to involve to United States internationally.

  • After Truman Administration, tried to work with Soviet Leader but failed to improve relations because of red scare
  • formed a conciliatory policy with Soviet Union but he still disliked and distrusted them

Truman: Revisionist historians also condemn his decision to pursue a Cold War. Gabriel and Joyce Kolko, other Revisionist historians, believe the Truman administration fabricated and exaggerated the idea of a hostile Soviet Union.
