-Spanish ruled reached out Tariq and the Muslims for help in the civil war, and the Islamic army quickly responded to their request in order to conquer Spain for themselves.

-Tariq then progressed to spain, in which he gained valuable support from spanish Jews who had to been persecuted by the Visigoths and from Christian supporters.

-In July 711 at the Battle of Guadalete Tariq ibn Ziyad defeated the Visigothic king Roderick at an undermined location

-After winning the battle he immediately marched upon Toledo, the capital of Spain, and occupied the city againt little to no resistance.

-He then conquered Cordoba Tariq Ibn Ziyad along with Musa ibn Nusayr occupied more than two-thirds of the Iberian Peninsula for the next several years.

-By 720 almost the entire peninsula was under Muslim control

-The story of the Muslim invasion of Spain is considered to be one of justice, freedom, and religious toleration
