What Do They Eat?

Aaptosyax grypus's eat a variety of fish. When going to feed the Mekong Giant Salmon Carp only eat the fish that live in the middle and upper layers of the rivers that they live in.

Yes, Aaptosyax grypus do migrate anually. Their migrating periods are from December to February. They migrate further up the river often over 100 kilometers.

In general Aaptosyax grypus are not extinct but they are coming close to it. Researchers in Thailand have not been able to find any of the Mekong Giant Salmon Carp.

What are threats to the species?

There are many threats contributing to the endangerment of the Mekong Giant Salmon Carp . For one, the fish is being hunted illegally. Secondly, there are lot of biological resources that are being taken from the rivers leaving less nutrients for the fish.

Where Do They Live?

Aaptosyax grypus live in the Mekong River, located in Asia. The river runs through China, Burma,Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

1.) They have slim bodies

2.)They have small fins except for their tail fin.

5.) They weigh around 30 kilograms or 66 pounds.

Aaptosyax grypus are indeed critically endangered. In the last decade more than 90% of it's population has died! Their population has drastically decreased.

They are in the Anamalia Kingdom

Their family members are galaxiids and argentinoids

They are very fast swimmers

It is said the Aaptosyax grypus have no gender.
