Precaution in handling component

Common Abbreviations

Common symbol

  • Static control test station is to test whether the waist strap is functioning well.

  • Grounding test station is test whether the heel strap and static shoe grounded.

  • The best method of handling ESD is to use an antistatic workbench, antistatic mat, artistic floor map, Earth Bounding point, Waist strap, heel strap, ESD coat & ESD chair.

  • Static dissipative materials have electrical resistance between each other.

Bat- Battery

Pwr- Power

Xfr- Transformer

Gnd- Ground

Disc- Disconnect

Gen - Generator

Caution - Hazardous voltages are present. To reduce the risk of electric shock and danger to personal health, follow the instructions.

Caution - sensitive electronic devices do not ship or store near strong electrostatic, electromagnetic, magnetic or radioactive fields.

Attention – observe precautions for handling electrostatic sensitive devices.

What causes ESD

Conclusion

Preventing ESD

  • ESDS can occur in our workplace and must not be underestimated.

  • Knowing the safety precaution before handling and installing the electrical component.

  • Always wear the necessary static accessories such as static wrist strap and heel strap to prevent ESDS.

  • Ensure all electrical components are grounded to protect ourself and the component from static discharges.
  • ESD is often generate by triboelectric when there is direct contact or separation with an another material.

  • Triboelectric charge will occurs in our daily life.

  • Handle any electronic component as a component sensitive to ESD.

  • Do not touch a component unless you are in a ESD protected area and are properly grounded by one strap at least.

  • Keep your work area free from food and beverages. Make sure it is clear of any static generating materials.

  • Avoid any contact between components sensitive to ESD and insulating material.

  • Store and transport ESD sensitive items in a static-shielding containers.

Precaution to observe when installing and removing ESD devices

  • Ensure that the wrist strap & mats are working well.

  • Use a specialize cleaner that is for static mats.

  • Remove all nonessential plastic items from the workstation.

  • Require personnel to wear footwear that is grounded.

  • Wrist strap must be wore when they sit at a workbench.

  • Each mat must be connected to the ground point.

  • ESDS stands for ElectroStatics Discharge Sensitive device.

  • ESD is a transfer of an electrostatic charge between bodies at different potentials and occurs with direct contact.

  • It can transfer, or discharge, the electrical charge to component and will cause the component to be damage or no longer functioning.
