- Sir Whittle was a pilot and engineer
- Frank was a Royal Air Force apprentice
- Mr. Whittle became a test pilot in 1931
- They worked in different rooms and didn't know what contribution the other was giving to the engine
- Carlson was an American law student
- Chester had a hard time finding investors in his new invention
- He was turned down by the IBM and the U.S. Army Signal Corps
- Mr. Chester Carlson was a research engineer and a patent attorney
- He filed a patent application in April, 1939 stating "I knew I had a very big tiger by the tail"

- Xerox Corporation trademarked the name "Xerox"
- The name "Xerox" was protected carefully, because the patent had not been filed yet
- The name "Xerox" still exists today providing printers, copiers, and fax machines to their customers
- Biro noticed the type of ink used to write newspapers dried quicker than others
- He decided to make a pen with that same type of ink
- He did it by putting ink in the pen and putting a ball at the end of the tip
- As the writer wrote, the ball would rotate and produce ink
