  • Pretoria's program is open to any student from any discipline pursuing an undergraduate degree.
  • Should have a sophomore standing, GPA of 3.0 or higher, and a clean disciplinary record.
  • Suggested that students have volunteer experience although not required.

Fordham's Ubantu Program offers students an opportunity in which they can do major or elective work, while at the same time being emerged in service-learning.

Study Abroad Program

What is the Study Abroad Program?

-Fordham University's Study Abroad Program helps enrich and enhance students' education and knowledge. This program allows students to obtain global knowledge as well as experience new and different cultures. Students travel to different parts of the world as either foreign exchange students or short term study abroad students.

Applying to the Study Abroad Program

-The International and Study Abroad Program Office (ISAP) provides advising seminars to help students who are interested in the program.

-Students interested in the Foreign Exchange Program are eligible in their junior year and Short- Term Study Abroad Program is opened to all currently enrolled student in Fordham University. All students must have a GPA of 3.0 and a good disciplinary record.

-Students must select the study abroad program they are interested in and apply. Students must also obtain approvals for the courses that might count towards their major. All students must pay an application fee that is billed to their student account. The application fee ranges from fifty dollars to a hundred and seventy-five dollars.

Foreign Exchange Program

Applying

- In order to apply to the Foreign Exchange Program, students are required to submit during the Early Action period a Fordham Study Abroad Application to the ISAP Office. After submitting the application, the students are asked for documents needed by the Universities as well as the registration information.

How to Apply to Fordham in Pretoria

  • Application is to be completed online.
  • Required Materials:

1.Non-Refundable Application Fee of $175 will be charged student account.

2.Statement of Purpose Questionnaire.

3.Major Advisor Reference for Fordham College students only. GSB students need Dean Reference.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Pretoria/ Cape Town/ Johannesburg, South Africa

- Summer Session

- Cost is $4,450 and tuition, which includes roundtrip airfare, housing, meals, course activities and insurance.

- Credits available for this course are four.

- Fordham students learn about the history of South Africa. The students travel through South Africa to learn about the history and its people.

Financial Aid

While in the Study Abroad Program, students who receive financial aid during the school year are able to apply that aid to their study abroad. TAP, Pell Grant, and loans can be used to cover study abroad fees. Work study and Metro Grants cannot be used for study abroad fees.

Scholarships

Students are able to apply to scholarships to help aid them pay their studying abroad fees. Fordham University offers a list of scholarships that students can apply to.

Granada, Spain

- Summer Session

- Cost is $2,075 plus tuition, which includes housing, meal plans, course activities and insurance.

- Credits available for this course are three.

-Students will receive Spanish language and culture classes for a month. Each class is four hours long and meets five days a week.

London, England

- Summer Session

- Cost is $2,600 plus tuition, which includes insurance, zone one and two Oyster cards, and most class activities. It does not cover food or roundtrip airfare.

- Credits available for this course are four.

- For this program, Fordham students are offered three different types of courses. The courses are British Heritage Cinema: Nationalism, Quality, and Culture, The Knights of the Round Table and Writing London: Outsiders in the City.

Paris, France

- Summer Session

- Cost is $2,800 plus tuition, which includes housing, meals, transportation, course activities and insurance.

- Credits available for this course are four.

- To be eligible for this program, students must have completed five semesters of French and have completed FREN 2001.

-This program is about French Literature and culture in which students listen to seminars as well as visit museums. Students maintain a journal during their trip.

Rome/Orvieto, Italy

-Summer session both in Rome and Orvieto

- Cost is $2,375 plus tuition, which includes housing, only breakfast, insurance and most course activities.

- Credits available for this program are 4.

This program offers four different courses, which are Performing Italian, The Art and Architecture of Rome, Photography in the Documentary Tradition, and ENGL XXXX: American Writers in Italy.

How to Apply to London Dramatic Program

  • Program is limited to 24 students per semester.
  • Complete an online application from, which includes a fee of $40.
  • Audition (Perform any of Shakespeare's plays that are not too familiar)
  • Student should have a 3.0 GPA.
  • $500 confirmation deposit (60 days prior to departure)
  • (2013-2014)
  • Tuition: $21, 422.50 - estimated
  • Non-Academic fee: $6,100
  • Students may apply their financial aid to the LDA Program.
  • There is a LDA Scholarship available for Fordham students.
  • Students earn 16 credits during this program.

Puebla Mexico

- Spring Break

- Cost is $1,450 plus tuition.

- Credit available is one.

- This program is one week long. It provides tours of the city as well as lectures about the history of the city.

- At the end of program, student must make presentation regarding their experience.

Viechtach, Germany

- Spring Break

- Cost is $725 plus tuition. This includes transportation, housing, course activities and insurance.

- Credits available for this course are three credits.

- This program is for German language and culture class students. Students learn how to speak, read, write and comprehend German.

During their stay in Germany, students will attend various activities and interact with Bavarian students who are majoring in English.

Fordham Students will stay in one of the student’s home.

In exchange for their hospitality, Fordham students who attended the program will have to house the German students at home or in dorms during their visit at Easter time.

Lviv, Ukraine

- Spring Break

- Cost is $1,995 plus tuition, which includes roundtrip airfare, transportation, housing, course activities and insurance.

- Credits available for this course are four credits.

- This course concerns youth and politics. Students will compare political behaviors of the U.S.A and communist Russia. Students have to research the link between youth and politics. Students will interview other students and young Russian students that must be included in their research paper at the end of the program.

Camino de Santiago, Spain

-Spring Break

-Cost is $565 plus tuition, which includes housing, course activities and insurance.

- Credits available for this program are four.

- This program discusses and explores Medieval Spain. Students take tours, listen to lectures and read text regarding Medieval Spain. At the end of the course, the class requires and essay.

London Centre's Liberal Arts Program

- This course centers on Shakespeare, London and the Early Modern Theater, which is 4 credits.It, also, centers on a 2-credit research module called Investigating London. Both courses are required.

Shakespeare, London and the Early Modern Theater:

- Students will be introduce to the early modern theater of London, mediating between the viewpoints of literacy and culture.

- Students will study and attend plays, which will help them add information to their London wiki.

Investigating London:

- Students will choose a topic that will serve as a research paper and meet weekly with faculty members to conduct their research.

Short- Term Abroad Programs

Short- term study abroad programs are courses given from two to six weeks in different campus locations.

Short- term study abroad programs cover classes such as:

- Art History -History -Spanish

-Business -Italian -Theater

- Communications -Medival Studies - Theology

- Economics -French -Visual Arts

-Education - Political Science

These programs are offered during winter break, spring break and two sessions are available during the summer vacation.

Each program has its own tuition and program fee.

To apply, appplications are found in the International and Study Abroad Programs' Office (ISAP) or can be found online.

Each application has its separate due date.

Fordham University offers outside short- term programs. A list is available at www.studyabroad.com or www.liepassport. When applying for outside study abroad programs, student must consult with a staff member of ISAP and assure that the program is accredited and acceptable.

Gabelli School of Business, London

Moscow, Russia

- Winter Break

- Cost is $2,875 which includes round trip, housing and course activities.

-Credits available are two.

-This study abroad program is offered for eighteen days as an elective for a theatre major or minor student.

-In this program, students attend performances in Moscow theatres , learn about the Russian theatre history, seminars and tours.

Tokyo, Japan

-Winter Break

-Cost is $2,350 plus tuition.

- Credits available are four.

- This program is offered for students that would like to develop their photographic skills by creating projects that reflect the Japanese culture.

The Gabelli School of Business offers a study abroad program in the United Kingdom. Its London based program literally turns the European commercial center into the students “business Laboratory.”

Students can choose to spend their spring, summer, or fall semester in the U.K. What is unique about this program is that each course is designed to meet each student’s specific Fordham requirements while strengthening the understanding of business in Europe. Moreover, the professors all have business experience in London.

The student’s experience is not only limited to London. During their out-of-class hours, students are encouraged to travel continental Europe. The proximity of Europe’s countries is an asset that will allow students to experience different cultures. Students can travel train, plane, or car.

Studying abroad in London expands student’s network of partners and inspires new ideas in students. Regardless of the area of business a student chooses to pursue, the Gabelli School in London offers experiences that will expand and enhance students’ horizons.

Required Coursework:

Service Learning:

  • This component of the program is directed by the University of Pretoria. University provides students with once-a-week full day experiences to engage with local community and do meaningful service.
  • Program features two reflective weekend retreats in Northern Pretoria along with spirituality sessions for students to consider their academic and service-learning experiments.
