The Death of Anna Garcia

Anna's Life Cont.

Anna's Life

Hypercholesterolemia

In addition to her having Type 1 Diabetes, she had diabetic complications and her pain crisis for awhile. Some of her complications involved hyper and hypoglycemia. Over the years her exercise fell and she had a poor diet. This caused Anna to have high blood pressure, high cholestrol, and high triglycerides. Hypercholesterolemia is what Anna was diagnosed with, in which it affected her cardiovascular system. This is a genetic mutation that causes the LDL receptor to be deformed and inefficient, causing high cholesterol in Anna's body.

Through out her life Anna had Sickle Cell Crisis. By the age of 14, Anna became sluggish and fatigued and also had to frequently pee. Her mother was concerned and tok her back to the doctor. The doctor had found out that Anna Had Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 diabtes is when a person is born with out the ability to produce insulin. The pancreas converts all glucose into insulin in this case however, the pancreas destroys the insulin making the person unable to obtain energy from glucose.

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes is a born with disease which the body is unable to produce insulin to help the glucose into the cells. Usually people with Type 1 use Insulin Injections to help regulate their levels. There is no cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

Sickle Cell Anemia

Short Term Interventions

  • for her diabetes when she was hypoglycemic or hypoglycemic she could easily fix it.
  • for her pain crisis she would take aspirin to take away the pain
  • for hypercholesterolemia she would take statins to help lower the cholesterol in her blood.

Long Term Interventions

  • Since she had diabetes she could have eaten a healthier diet
  • Her sickle cell she could have taken blood thinners to help reduce the sickled cells to educe pain crisises
  • Her Hypercholesterolemia caused her to have high cholesterol and blood pressure which affected her cardiovascular system

Ketones

Ketoacidosis

In a urine test, the had found a high amount of ketones. They are body deposits of fat in the body that was used to make energy in Anna's body. Ketones are very bad and toxic in which they had poisoned every single body system, and created swelling in her brain.

Ketoacidosis is a diabetic symptom that makes the person most likely go into a diabetic coma and die. The symptoms of ketoacidosis are:

  • Thirst or a very dry mouth
  • Frequent urination
  • High blood glucose
  • High levels of ketones in the urine
  • Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
  • Difficulty breathing

Conclusion

How Did Anna Die?

Anna's Life Cont. 3

Anna had died from ketoacidosis. In the final autopsy report she had ketones in her urine, a very kigh blood glucose level which helped the ketones poison the body systems and Anna's body had forced itself to pass out. When that happend she threw up and collapsed hitting her head on a nearby desk causing her to bleed out which lead to her sudden death.

Anna had to go the hospital for a sickle cell crisis, there she got a Urinary Tract Infection from a catheter. Anna's urine was cloudy and reddish pink color, also she had these feelings like she had to pee but only a little came out. Its a bacterial infection which affected her Urinary Tract System.

Nobody really knows how Anna had died but I think I might have a solution. I believe that she had died from a diabetic symptom called Ketoacidosis.

How it All Started

Well lets go back to the beginning when Anna was 14 months old and first came to the hospital for a medical emergency. Anna had a fever and wouldn't stop crying because the doctor had diagnosed that Anna had Sickle Cell Anemia. Sickle Cell is a disease where a genetic defect caused the hemoglobin molecule to be different which makes the cells sickle shaped, allowing less oxygen to be carried in the blood and may result to a pain crisis.
