The Prioress's Tale

First some background info:

Medieval Religion

  • Christianity
  • Catholic Church- only Church
  • Convents= Home for Nuns
  • Nuns at the top of medieval pyramid
  • 3 vows of Nuns
  • Reasons for being Nuns

Some women wished to devote

their life to God, some seeked

a safe haven, and some took

their vows to obey their family's

wishes

The Prioress

What is a Prioress?

An Abbess, or the leader

in a group, or convent, of nuns

The Prioress in this story is a kind hearted woman, committed to her faith.

She gets along well with the other pilgrims.

And now her tale...

a young christian boy in Asia runs through a Jewish village singing the hymn "Alma Redemptoris Mater"

By singing this song to the mother, the boy angers the Jews and they kill him.

Boy sees vision of the Holy Mother before he dies

Moral of the story

If you have faith in your lord and savior he will watch over you
