  • He is related to the Civil War because he contributed a great deal to the Union wins.
  • He won large battles such as The Battle of Vicksburg.

  • A confederate general.
  • He is related to the Civil War because he faced William T. Sherman in Atlanta.
  • Hood lost and over 11,000 men died.
  • A Confederate general
  • He is related to the Civil War because he served in the CSA's military.
  • He also served under General Robert E. Lee.
  • A fort off the coast of South Carolina.
  • The CSA attacks the fort on April 12, 1861.
  • The Civil War begins.
  • factories, businesses, etc.
  • This is related to the Civil War because industry falls under solvency.
  • Solvency is one of the five "S"es that leads to the confederate states seceeding.
  • A document that proclaims all slaves free if the CSA did not surrender.
  • It is related to the war because Lincoln tried to use it to end the war, but it did not work.
  • The CSA ignored the Emancipation Proclamation because Lincoln was not thier president.

  • It's related to the war because it destroyed the railroads that the South needed to transport supplies.

  • The CSA capital
  • This is related to the Civil War because it was the capital of the Confederates.
  • The CSA burned down Richmond when they heard that Sherman was coming to the capital.
  • A heavy blanket made of various fabrics
  • Quilts are related to the Civil War because the "conductors" on the Underground Railroad hung quilts outside.
  • The quilts were like a code saying that the residents of the home are friendly and would hide runaway slaves.
  • The official name of the states that seceeded from the Union.
  • It is related to the Civil War because it was the southern side of the war.
  • The CSA is also the losing side in the war

O- Opression

  • large farms, usually about 500 acres+ of land that employs slaves.
  • This has to do with the Civil War because the slaves worked on the plantations in horrible conditions.
  • The Noth and the South dissagreed about this kind of living.

B- Battle of Bull Run

X- Xenophobia

  • Cruelty towards a group of people because of race or ethnicity.
  • This is related to the Civil War because blacks were oppressed or enslaved.
  • The Civil War happened partially because of dissagreements on slavery.
  • The hatred or fear of foreigners or strangers.
  • It relates to the Civil War because both sides were fighting on unfamiliar territory.
  • Also, it is very common to have xenophobia during war.

N- Navy

  • First major land battle.
  • It relates to the Civil War because it was the first real battle of the war.
  • It takes place not far from the Union capitol

W- Eli Whitney

  • A branch of the military
  • The navy relates to the Civil War because it is a part of the military.
  • Also, the Union Navy set up blockades in the Anaconda Plan.

A- Antebellum

V- Vicksburg

  • The inventor of the cotton gin
  • He is related to the Civil War because the invention of the cotton gin increased the need for slaves.
  • The North didn't like that because they were trying to abolish slavery.

M- Missouri Compromise

  • The city in which the Battle of Vicksburg takes place.
  • It relates to the Civil War because it was a turning point in the war.
  • The Union took control of the Mississippi and cut off Louisianna, Texas, and Arkensas from the the rest of the Confederation.
  • A compromise that said anything above a certain line will be a free state and anything below it will be a slave state.
  • This has to do with the Civil War because it contributes to sectionalism.
  • Later, the states thought this was unfair.
  • Before war.
  • The word antebellum relates to the Civil war because it was the time period before the war started.
  • The Union was still in tact.

U- Undergroung Railroad

  • A series of roads, houses, river crossings, and people who helped southern slaves escape to the North or Canada.
  • It's related to the Civil War because the North didn't like slavery and the South did.
  • The Civil War was partially faught over slavery.

L- Robert E. Lee

K- Kansas-Nebraska Act

T- Harriet Tubman

  • A Confederate general
  • He is related to the Civil War because he fought in the CSA'S military.
  • He also invaved the North but lost in the Battle of Gettysburg.
  • A slave who helped very many people escape on the Underground Railroad.
  • She is related to the Civil War because she was a slave trying to go the free North.
  • Also, the Underground Railroad was an abolitionist movement. Anyone who oppossed slavery could help runaways.

Z- Zuccess

  • The act that stated that the south could only have railroads built if Kansas-Nebraska decided to be a slave state or not by popular vote.
  • It's related to the Civil War because it contributes to sectionalism.
  • Sectionalism is another "S" that helped start the Civil War.
  • The condition the North was in after the war ended and the treaty was signed.
  • It relates to the Civil War because that it the North's status.
  • When you say "Zuccess" you are really saying success.

Y- Yankee

  • A person from the North.
  • This relates to the Civil War because that is what Northerners were called.
  • Yankee was their nickname during the Civil War.
