Symbolism
Relationships
The symbols I chose to use throughout this presentation thoroughly represent the characters in The Great Gatsby for good reasons. For Gatsby, I decided to use a picture of the statue of liberty with an American flag behind it to represent his quest for the American dream. Tom, I found a picture of an angry sports car to show his love for driving fast cars, his brute attitude, and wealthy lifestyle. I put a picture of lips in Daisy's circle to symbolize how she is beautiful and mesmerizing and enraptures men with her sultry voice. Nick's symbol was somewhat of a no brainer considering how he is the narrator of the story. Jordan, I used a bathroom-styled picture of a female playing golf to show her professionalism in golf. And finally, for Myrtle, I used another picture of lips except with a finger over it to symbolically represent her secret relationship with Tom.
All of the arrows connected to the character's circles are used to represent the relationships they have with other characters throughout The Great Gatsby. For Gatsby, he has an arrow pointing towards Daisy, to show that he is in love with her, and a two way arrow pointing towards Nick because of their friendship. For Tom, he has an arrow pointing towards Gatsby because he despises him and has a two way arrow pointing towards Daisy, to show that they are married, and Myrtle because of their secret affair. For Daisy, she has an arrow pointing towards Gatsby, because she is flattered by him, and Myrtle because she accidentally kills her. Nick has a two way arrow pointing towards Jordan, since they're dating, and Daisy because they are cousins. Myrtle has a two way arrow pointing towards Daisy to represent their friendship. And finally for Myrtle, she has an arrow pointing towards Gatsby because he is blamed for her death.
