Reverend Earl Little died when Malcolm was only six years old. It's believed that he was murdered by a member of the Black Legion, but his official cause of death is reported as a car accident.

"Uncle Tom's Cabin" is an anti-Slavery novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852.
An "Uncle Tom" is a character that was popularized by this novel and describes a black person who is subservient to a white person. An "Uncle Tom" is often preoccupied with pleasing white people, even at the expense of his/her own friends and family.
