"The Tales of Two Valleys"

But really it's the tale of Two America's.

  • Nationally, one in five children live below the poverty line.
  • In America, where we have a GDP of $18.1 trillion (highest in the world), we have developed the 2nd highest rate of child poverty.
  • Only Romania is worse.

Questions:

  • 23% of children live below the poverty line in California
  • Do you feel Silicon Valley reflects the rest of America?

Why or why not?

(In other words, is this a California problem or an American problem?)

Housing Subsidies:

  • Would reduce child poverty by 20.8%
  • That's more than the population of San Francisco and Philadelphia.
  • 23.5 billion is the cost, but U.S. loses 500 billion to poverty.
  • "Housing is the single most expense for most families and continually growing out of reach." Children Defense Fund, 2015 report
  • Of the 4 policies, which are you in favor of? Why?
