Problems:

Since it was specifically said that destruction and/or demolition in any part of the building were not allowed, the following were chosen instead:

  • retrofitting
  • repainting
  • addition of more foliage
  • replacing some of the exterior finishes

Enlarge windows

Add more and/or choose better foliage

  • Its exterior is not maintained well (paint chipping, eaves not fixed, very few vegetation)
  • The primary material used (concrete) is not environment-friendly
  • The ambiance is not inviting to people
  • Parking space not placed well thus the barangay ambulance is occupying part of the road meant for driving

Replace tiles with

stone/concrete

Demolish this useless structure and

plant more trees instead in this area

The space of the barangay hall was small and tearing down of anything wasn't allowed, so there was little to begin with. There are still many ways to improve the conditions of the barangay hall though, aside from the suggestions showed in the images:

  • The hall and the facilities and appliances used should be refurbished. Newer models of appliances today (eg. air conditioners) have lesser GHG emissions.
  • How and where energy is most used and wasted should be identified. For example, staff should monitor which places are least inhabited to conserve electricity.
  • Since heating, lighting, and ventilation are responsible for 43%, 23%, and 11% of CO2 emissions, energy efficient appliances and equipment should be used such as modern boilers, LED lights, and etc.
  • If funded enough, the hall may be equipped with energy saving equipment/replace finishes with airtight cladding, insulation of cavity walls, speed drives on ventilation system fan motors, etc.
  • Potted plants can be placed on the balcony part of the hall. Trees may be planted around the surrounding area especially in the rear area (it is the only space that is fitting) to provide more shade.
