EMDR allows you to repack your trauma closet with gifts you deserved but never received during the time of the trauma.
This Cognitive Interweave and Resourcing provides that Heart/Head Connection
and it changes the way you feel when
you remember.
Sometimes the need to numb the pain
and make the memories go away
can cause desperate behavior.
-Trauma memories can be caused from minor or major events.
-Childhood trauma increases risk of future trauma.
-Trauma memories are stored in a more active part of the brain.
-We spend a lot of effort packing away and trying to avoid our trauma memories. When trauma memories come forward it often feels like they happened yesterday, no matter how long ago they occurred.
Prolonged Exposure
Helps client approach trauma related thoughts feelings and situations they have been avoiding due to distress. Repeated exposure reduces distress over time.
We pack our disturbing memories away in our trauma closet, until they get triggered and that closet door pops open, and it tumbles down on us, and makes us feel like crap...again.
There are "best-practice" or "evidence based" treatments available for PTSD.
The two main types are psychotherapy, sometimes called
“counseling,” and medication. Often a combined psychotherapy and medication approach is used. The following psychotherapy approaches are treatments for PTSD that are proven to work:
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), such as
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
• Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
• Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
(EMDR).
Note: Traditional Talk Therapy can be contra-indicated.
